The Scottish Borders Campus in Galashiels is 38 miles south of Edinburgh, right at the very heart of the Borders. Historically the town's prosperity was founded in the textile industry. The best known feature of the town is the impressive war memorial with its massive Border Reiver horseman - the work of local sculptor Thomas Clapperton. Old Gala House, home of the Lairds of Gala for several centuries, is now a museum and art gallery set in landscaped gardens and is the venue for our Borders Campus graduation reception every year.
The Martindale Library serves students and staff based based at Heriot-Watt University's Scottish Borders Campus at Galashiels. It is an integral part of the University's Library and IT networks, the headquarters of which are at the main University Campus in Edinburgh. In 2003 Borders College relocated its 'care' courses to the Campus, and the Library has provided a home for the College's growing collection of resources in the 'Borders College Collection'.
