Heriot-Watt's Archive, Records Management and Museum Service (ARMMS) collects objects, works of art and archives in all formats including electronic and digital media in accordance with certain criteria. In some circumstances it is necessary for the ARMMS service to dispose of or transfer certain items from its collection. The procedures and authority for acquisition and disposal activities are outlined in detail in this policy.

The University Collections Committee advises the Court on policy regarding the development and exploitation of the University's collections of items of historical and artistic interest, and on the acquisition and management of these collections.

Collections management represents a large part of the work of the University Archive, Records Management and Museum Service (ARMMS). The Collections Committee reports annual to the University Court on developments in the previous academic year and future plans.
