conduct
In order to achieve Heriot-Watt's aims and maintain a high quality of service and delivery from all members of staff, the University has a disciplinary policy and procedure designed to help and encourage all employees. The University expects its employees to maintain acceptable standards of attendance, conduct and job performance, in the course of their employment with the University. The disciplinary procedures for different categories of staff are outlined in detail.
The Discipline Appeals Board is responsible for considering appeals made against the Discipline Committee.
The Discipline Committee deals with student disciplinary matters of a major nature in the first instance and with appeals in the case of minor offences against a decision of a Dean, Warden or the Librarian.
Research misconduct is defined as the fabrication, falsification, plagiarism or deception in proposing, carrying out or reporting results of research or deliberate, dangerous or negligent deviations from accepted practices in carrying out research. The University cannot be prescriptive about individual approaches taken by researchers to solving particular research problems. However, the University tries to ensure that an adequate structure exists to promote and promulgate good research practice, emphasizing integrity and rigour in research, and to create a culture in which the following general principles can be understood and observed.
