fees
The Academic Registry is responsible for a range of academic administrative services in relation to students, staff and courses at all the University campuses. The site includes information on tuition fees, examinations, graduation, senate, learning and teaching, quality assurance, as well as specific information for international, undergraduate and postgraduate students. A useful set of links to student services can also be accessed from this site.
International students i.e. non-EU students, are asked to complete a detailed form which enables us to assess the fees payable by them. The fees payable by international students i.e. their 'fee status' are higher than those payable by a UK or EU national. The form enables the University to assess whether the student has a 'relevant connection' to the UK which might positively influence their fee status. Guidance notes are available to clarify the procedure.
Tuition fees are payable each year of your course. Details of financial support, fee waivers and other information are available from Academic Registry. Scholarships are available in a number of cases subject to conditions and your individual circumstances. Alternatively, support for living expenses may be available depending on your circumstances or perhaps a part-time job is a requirement?
Information regarding tuition fee levels and an estimate of living expenses are available here and further details are available from our International Recruitment Office. As a single international undergraduate student, you will be guaranteed a room in one of the University's halls of residence or flats. This requires you to have an unconditional offer from the University and to apply for a room by 1 September in the year of entry.
Heriot-Watt University's online payments facility is available so that fees and International Deposits for postgraduate students can be paid quickly and efficiently by credit or debit card.
A Fee Waiver Scheme operates for Home/EU undergraduates studying part-time. Students or their dependent families must qualify for income support, working families tax credit, housing benefit, severe disablement allowance, incapacity benefit, carers allowance, pension credit or be a registered job seeker. Students can study without paying fees or losing benefits. Eligible students are invited to apply using the form and guidance notes supplied.
This policy relates to all fees and charges payable by students to the University for the use of its facilities and the provision of its services i.e. tuition fees, accommodation charges and other fees and charges. The policy has been produced to help new students to Heriot-Watt University settle in by understanding the financial requirements of the University. Adherence to the policy will help the University to manage potential risks and problems which could otherwise arise.
This handbook has been designed to help new or continuing students to understand the responsibilities they have for their fees and to provide them with the information that enables them to arrange payment in good time. Heriot-Watt University expects all students to have full funding for fees in place before commencing their chosen course of study. Whether all your tuition fees are being paid by a sponsor or funding body or you are self-financing part or all of your tuition fees, you are ultimately responsible for ensuring that your tuition fees are paid in full within Heriot-Watt University's terms.
Tuition fees are payable each year of your course and the current fees are indicated. If you reside in Scotland you can have your tuition fees paid by the Students Awards Agency for Scotland (SAAS). EU nationals, who satisfy the eligibility requirements, will also have the cost of their tuition fees met by SAAS. If you are from England, Wales or Northern Ireland you will not have to pay fees. Instead you will be eligible for a student loan to cover your costs. International students who are not from the EU should contact the International Recruitment Office regarding tuition fees.
