The Heriot-Watt Oil and Gas Alumni Association (HWOGAA) was established for graduates of Heriot-Watt University's Institute of Petroleum Engineering (PET). Oil and Gas alumni are encouraged to register with the HWOGAA and help to make a world-class institute into an ever more global one. We host regular events and reunions and a biannual newsletter is available for registered graduates.

The Institute's Orkney-based International Centre for Island Technology (ICIT) was established to carry out advanced research, postgraduate training and consultancy in marine resource management and related issues. The Maxwell Institute for Mathematical Sciences is an internationally recognised centre for research and for postgraduate training in the mathematical sciences. This Joint Research Institute (JRI) forms an important part of the Edinburgh and Heriot-Watt Universities' Edinburgh Research Partnership in Engineering and Mathematics.

Housed on the Research Park of Heriot-Watt University The Scotch Whisky Research Institute is a centre of excellence dedicated to the needs of the distilled beverage industry. The Institute works closely with universities, other research facilities and Scotch Whisky companies, and is involved in work on all areas of spirit manufacture.
