policy
This policy relates to all fees and charges payable by students to the University for the use of its facilities and the provision of its services i.e. tuition fees, accommodation charges and other fees and charges. The policy has been produced to help new students to Heriot-Watt University settle in by understanding the financial requirements of the University. Adherence to the policy will help the University to manage potential risks and problems which could otherwise arise.
The Treasury Policy applies to the entire Heriot-Watt Group covering both the University and all of its subsidiary companies. The purpose of the Policy is to identify, mitigate, manage and control financial risks.
These guidelines clarify the reward arrangements - provided for in the University Policy on Intellectual Property (IP), Confidential Information and Commercialisation - for staff when consecutive pieces of IP from their research are licensed to a company in which the inventor holds equity.
The University aims to employ all staff on an open-ended basis in every appropriate circumstance. However, staff will be appointed on a fixed term basis if certain criteria apply e.g. finite funding (research grant), maternity cover, secondment etc. Staff employed on fixed term contract will have similar terms and conditions of employment to colleagues in the University in comparable jobs with open ended contracts.
