Staff appointed to academic posts who have no teaching experience are normally subject to a period of probation, usually of three years. For those with some experience the period of probation may be reduced, or, where deemed appropriate, waived. Those who have satisfactorily completed a probationary period at a British university should normally be appointed without further probation.
