The accountancy group is engaged in research both at the accounting and management interface and, within mainstream accounting, on corporate reporting and disclosure - including the study of intangibles. On the finance side, it contributes to the work of CERT with research in both market behaviour and corporate finance.

The interests of this research group include the application of knowledge of human perception to problems in computer vision, cognitive changes affecting the mobility of older people, and attentional processes underlying driving and work performance.
This work brings together ideas that question inter-subjectivity through the relationship of the form of the object and image to its context within contemporary or traditional settings. Some of the themes being explored include decoration as a signifier within a cultural context, the dichotomy between design and the arts within textiles and fashion and the nature of the object as ephemera within post-modern culture.
Research covers topics in the fields of atomic and molecular science as well as semiconductor and condensed matter physics.
This research is aimed at 'molecular fingerprinting' of the bacteria involved in food poisoning so that they can be identified and traced in food manufacturing plants. We are also interested in the food poisoning toxins, their role in infection and the molecular and physiological controls that govern bacterial growth.
Research builds upon established strengths in construction, engineering, management, surveying, design and urban studies, and developed cross-cutting research themes in the areas of infrastructure management, architecture and design in the built environment, and water and environmental management. Research groups cover: Construction Management; Construction Technology and Materials; Drainage; and Visual Impairment - adapting the built environment for the visually impaired.
Established in 1990, the CERT research centre's principal focus has been on the transition economies of Central and Eastern Europe, the former Soviet Union and East Asia. More recently, CERT's research has extended beyond the former socialist countries to include emerging economies throughout the world.
Multiscale Engineering covering: life science engineering, molecular and interface engineering, multiphase process engineering, offshore oil and gas processing, particle technology, and catalytic reaction engineering.
