strategy
The Estate Strategy Committee ensures that the University addresses estate issues and implications of the strategic plan, budgets, and the requirements of funding authorities. The Committee ensures the application of management controls to building and maintenance projects, and advises Court on performance measures and benchmarking comparisons for the estate function.
The University's Estate Strategy Committee Annual Report provides details of the performance of the Estate Office and information on the staffing, turnover, the main areas of operation and the main projects undertaken. It also provides an indication of the future strategic priorities of the Estate Office.
Focus on the Future is an ambitious and decisive strategy to set our direction to 2015 and to place Heriot-Watt University at the forefront of research and research-led education in the UK and internationally. Its intention is to set the agenda to reshape the University and, in so doing, grow our academic base by 50% in ten years. Our vision for the next decade is to become a world-leading university - a university which will produce the next generation of global leaders in business and technology.
The Committee ensures that annual budgets are based on correct assumptions regarding staffing levels and costs, by reviewing the staffing implications of the Strategic Plan. The Committee advises Court on performance measures and benchmarking comparisons for the staffing function, and ensures the application of best practice. The Committee also reviews from time to time the overall effectiveness of personnel policies and regulations, and of staff development and management training policies.
In October 2006, the Court approved a proposed process for strategic development in the University. Court is responsible for the vision, mission, values, objectives and strategic goals of the University, and PME for the more detailed targets and activities as advised by PME Boards.
