Mathematics & computer science
Our research in computer science and the mathematical sciences is interdisciplinary, collaborative and world leading.
Working in partnership
The Maxwell Institute for Mathematical Sciences is widely recognised as one of the top mathematics institutes in the UK. Formed as a joint research institute between Heriot-Watt University and the University of Edinburgh, it is a key strength of the Edinburgh Research Partnership.
Heriot-Watt University plays a key role in the Scottish Informatics and Computer Science Alliance, bringing together Scotland's leading computer science departments to create an impressive concentration of research activity in this field.
The Department of Mathematical Sciences, together with the University of Edinburgh, runs the International Centre for Mathematical Sciences.
