Heriot-Watt University scholarships & bursaries for students from England, Northern Ireland or Wales: how it works
Our generous package of bursaries combined with the flexibility to enter your honours degree programme directly into Level 2 makes Heriot-Watt an attractive option for A-Level and other entrants from England, Northern Ireland or Wales. Here's how it works:
Example 1: Matt
Matt’s household income is less than £25,000 per year, so Matt is entitled to a Heriot-Watt University Bursary. Matt has chosen to enter at Level 1 as part of a 4-year Honours degree, so he is also entitled to the Heriot-Watt Foundation Bursary. What support is he eligible for from Heriot-Watt’s financial aid packages (in addition to government support)?
| Level 1 | Level 2 | Level 3 | Level 4 | Total | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Heriot-Watt Foundation Bursary fee discount | £2,250 | £2,250 | £2,250 | £2,250 | £9,000 |
| Heriot-Watt Foundation Bursary additional support (cash or accommodation discount) |
£1,500 | - | - | - | £1,500 |
| Heriot-Watt University Bursary (accommodation discount) |
- | £2,000 | £2,000 | £2,000 | £6,000 |
| Heriot-Watt University Bursary additional support (cash bursary) |

| TOTAL | £3,750 | £5,250 | £5,250 | £5,250 | £19,500 |
- Matt is liable for gross fees of 4 x £9,000 = £36,000. Assuming that he takes the bursaries available as fee discounts this is reduced by £15,000 to £21,000.
- Additionally, Matt receives £4,500 in cash or as accommodation discounts
Example 2: Clare
Clare’s household income is £42,000 per year, so Clare is entitled to the Heriot-Watt University Bursary. Clare has chosen to enter at Level 2, taking a 3-year Honours degree.

| TOTAL | £2,000 | £2,000 | £2,000 | £6,000 |
